[From a Fan:] yes its the fail. But what’s your thoughts about cutting back on lighting? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2613391/What-scaredy-cops-Police-call-search-thief-decided-dark-outside.html#article-2613391

Have they never heard of ADVOKATE?
I just think the low lighting energy saving crap is a joke. It’s been statistically proven time and time again areas with low lighting have higher crime rates particularly places with old train track areas and alleyways because that coupled with low lighting equals easier get away. As for the officers nip to Costco they have discount on torches 😉
Basically the Mail taking something out of a context where it’s perfectly reasonable and normal and removing key information to cause as much damage as possible. Classic Daily Mail.
Is this a late April fool?
Funny I don’t remember a report in the DM when I chased, scrapped with & caught a bloke over garden fences, at night, despite de-gloving my finger on a nail on the top of one of the fences!
I knew I shouldn’t have looked just read some of the comments and I am seething at some of them people who have no idea
‘Last night it was still not clear whether the officers were scared of the dark, or concerned about the risk of tripping’
Clearly the only 2 logical explanations for calling off the chase!! ? The Fail strikes again!
Then were be in the dark
The Daily Fail is very selective when presenting ‘facts’, and has never heard of balanced reporting. Perhaps the officers abandoned the chase to stop the numpty they were chasing coming to any harm, thereby preventing him trying to sue for damages. Or, if it was so utterly dark that they had no chance of spotting him, maybe it really was pointless, and perhaps they were urgently needed elsewhere, where they could have made a difference. Whatever the truth of the matter, we won’t get it from the Fail. I’m just a MOP, BTW – some of us see through the anti-police propaganda churned out by this vile rag. All I know is I’ve needed the police many times over the last couple of years, and I’ve not been let down once, so I’ll treat this article with scepticism.
I interpret the police statement as simply being it was hard because it was dark. Not sure the police actually called off the pursuit. More likely the dark helped him escape.
The thief took wallets, electrical gadgets and a mountain bike. Why the f**k were those items left in the cars in the first place???
I worked a patch which trialled having street lights switched off at night. After 12 months, compared crime figures for that year with the preceding year. No difference. And the patch had everything going for it for an increase in crime – rural area with a motorway running through it and close to London.
The lack of anticipated crime and disorder mayhem left the parish council looking a bit silly.
As for the Mail article, how about this condensed version: “Sarge, we’ve lost the suspect, got any back up or NPAS?”
“Nah lads, call it off, he’s long gone.”
One question, what moron leaves their wallet and electricals in the car? They haven’t read the news or watched the telly? They deserve to have their cars broken into!
Instead of the usual attempt at a sensible justification, I have a severe case of man flu so can’t be arsed, I will just say the daily fail can go fu@# itself!
