[From the Mirror:] Missing Police Sergeant Louise Gibson’s Body Found in Woodland

Police Officers searching for a missing colleague were left devastated today after discovering a body in woodland.

Sergeant Louise Gibson, 43, vanished four days ago sparking a huge police manhunt.

Police tonight revealed they had found a body at about 4pm in a wooded area of the leafy village where she lived.

The married mother-of-three, who served with Thames Valley Police for more than 10 years, mysteriously disappeared from home in the tiny village of Great Kingshill, Buckinghamshire, on Thursday evening.

The mother’s worried relatives had spread news of her disappearance online in a bid to bring her back home.

However, her oliceman husband and children received the terrible news today that officers involved in the search had found her dead body.

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Shead said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm a body, believed to be our missing colleague Louise Gibson, was found in Little Kingshill, Buckinghamshire, this afternoon.

The daughter of a missing police sergeant says she just wants her back Louise Gibson, 43, of Linnet Grove, off Victoria Road, has not been seen since 5.30pm on Thursday, when she left her parents house in Buckinghamshire.

“Louise’s family, friends and colleagues have been informed and are being supported. I would ask that their privacy is respected.

“This is a very sad time for her family and everyone at Thames Valley Police. We have a fine tradition of pulling together in times of adversity and I am confident we will continue to pull together and support each other.”

The officer’s eldest daughter, Bethany, 25, gave an interview just hours before her mother was found today.

She said: “Mum is a wonderful person and we are desperate to get her back home.

“We have no idea what happened and that makes it really difficult to deal with. There were no mental health issues and this is completely out of character.

“Mum always put everyone first. She was really well respected in her job and a great leader. She planned to take her inspector’s exam soon.”

Sgt. Gibson, who was married once before, had two children, Bethany and Robert, with her first husband Tony Cook.

After they divorced, she married fellow police officer John Gibson. Both were based at High Wycombe Police Station.

She also leaves behind a daughter named Ellie.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “The body of a woman has been found in woodland near Little Kingshill, Buckinghamshire.

“She is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be missing police officer Louise Gibson.

“Louise had been missing from Great Kingshill, Buckinghamshire, since Thursday evening.

“Her family have been informed of the discovery and are being supported by family liaison officers.”

(From Sky news) Police Federation Faces Bullying Claims
The organisation, which represents 124,000 police officers, is accused of levels of bullying which “rival any popular soap opera”.

A “systematic” culture of bullying within the top tiers of the Police Federation has been identified by MPs in a damning new report.

The Home Affairs Committee said it had heard “alarming allegations of bullying and unprofessional conduct within the Federation, particularly at the Headquarters,” during an inquiry into the organisation.

It referenced a letter drafted, but never sent, to the committee by current Federation chairman Steve Williams, who detailed what MPs described as “shocking” treatment at the hands of colleagues.

Mr Williams, who is due to step down following the Federation’s annual conference next week, said he had been continually “criticised, ridiculed and verbally attacked” after commissioning an independent review into the organisation by former Home Office permanent secretary Sir David Normington.

He said: “Whilst accepting emotions are running high in the advent of inevitable change, at times I have genuinely felt that I have been gratuitously and cruelly bullied and humiliated.”

Mr Williams suggested his late predecessor, Paul McKeever, had suffered similar treatment.

The Normington report ultimately recommended far-reaching reforms in the Federation, many of which were echoed in the Home Affairs Committee report.

Committee chairman Keith Vaz MP said: “We were shocked by the scale of bullying that we found at the Federation’s Headquarters. It rivals any popular soap opera.

“It is disgraceful that any chairman should have been hounded out for championing the long-overdue reforms set out in the Normington Report.”

Like the Norminton Report, the committee has recommended that the Federation’s national chair is elected by all members. Currently a 30-person-strong Joint Central Committee is responsible for filling the role.

MPs also found that tens of thousands of officers should have have part of their membership fee refunded, fees frozen in 2015.

It said the Federation was unnecessarily sitting on reserves of around £70m, far in excess of its operating costs, adding that a full disclosure of its financial affairs was needed.

The Police Federation represents an estimated 124,000 police officers from the ranks of constable, sergeant, inspector and chief inspector.

It is expected to debate the recommended reforms at the conference next week.

A man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after he drove his Volkswagen Golf into the side of a police car in the Black Country on Saturday morning.

Two officers, who were on a routine patrol, were both taken to hospital after the incident at the junction of Smithy Lane and Tansey Green Road, in Dudley, at around 2.40am.

The Golf had mounted the pavement before the collision.

A 44-year-old man from Dudley was arrested at the scene.

One officer remained in hospital on Saturday afternoon, although police reported that his injuries were not thought to be life-changing.

Chief Inspector Jack Hadley said: “Both officers were extremely lucky not to suffer more serious injuries.

“The driver of the other car had lost control of his vehicle and the end result could have been far worse.”
